If you click on the link above to "My Kaiser Permanente Provider Website," you will have access to more information about your visual health and learn more about some common eye disorders. There are also a number of links to clinical information, as well as a link to the web sites of other members of our department. There is also useful information about cataract surgery. I hope you find this web site useful, and appreciate any feedback you can provide to make this site the best it can be.

About Myself

I was originally born in Canada, but spent time in Hong Kong, Hawaii, and Georgia before my family settled in California. After spending my childhood in San Francisco and the Peninsula, I went to college at UC Berkeley. After completing an Ophthalmology residency at UC Irvine, I was fortunate to find a position at Kaiser San Francisco, allowing me to practice the best medicine in my home town. Working in San Francisco has also given me the opportunity to use my Cantonese language skills.

Since joining Kaiser San Francisco in 1998, I have developed a refractive surgery (laser vision correction) program at our medical center. I have been the President of the Kaiser Ophthalmology society, and I currently serve as Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology in San Francisco.

My special medical interest is in anterior segment surgery, refractive surgery, and general ophthalmology. I am a member of the American Academy or Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. I also serve as a staff instructor for the California Pacific Medical Center Ophthalmology Residency Program, where I help to train residents in cataract surgery.

When away from work, I enjoy spending time with my wife. Together we enjoy the culinary arts (eating, cooking, and wine), travel, camping and backpacking, and opera. My other interests include motorcycling, mountaineering, and ice climbing.

Practice Philosophy/Approach

I, along with my team of medical assistants and Optometrists, strive to provide quality care that is both comprehensive and personalized. I enjoy educating my patients and involving them in health care decisions. I especially enjoy working at Kaiser, because its model of health care allows me to offer patients the best care, diagnostics tests, and treatments.

I want to ensure that your concerns are addressed at your visit. If you need to reach me or my medical assistants, please call my office at (415) 833-3907.
